A patron is on the wrong library

Cleanup steps for multi-library accounts.

A patron's account ended up on the wrong library. Here's how to fix it.

Why this can happen

  • A super_admin clicked the wrong library when creating an account
  • A patron signed up at the wrong subdomain
  • Migration mistakes

Identifying the issue

  • The patron tries to sign in at your library and gets "Wrong library" error
  • Their patron record is missing from your tenant
  • They can sign in at a different library (where the account actually lives)

Fixing it

## Option 1: Patron creates a new account

Patron signs up fresh at your library. Loan history doesn't carry over (which may be okay if they're new).

## Option 2: Move the account

Contact hello@tryshelfwise.com. We can move the patron + their loan history from one library to another. Requires confirmation from both libraries' admins.

## Option 3: Delete and recreate

Delete the patron from the wrong library. Re-add them to your library. Loan history is lost.

Preventing it

  • Always sign in at the right URL (bookmark it)
  • During signup, double-check the subdomain in the URL
  • For staff creating patrons: confirm which library you're in before adding

Email aliases

Some patrons use the same email for multiple libraries (jane+library1@example.com). This works fine but means each library has a separate account.
