The back office sidebar is missing items

Access matrix overrides and role differences.

A staff member can't see a sidebar entry that should be there.

Common reason

The access matrix has been adjusted. Settings → Access (super_admin only) → check the role and feature in question.

How to debug

  • Sign in as the affected user
  • Look at the sidebar
  • Compare to a colleague's sidebar (same role, same access)
  • If they're different, the access matrix has been edited for one library and not another

Default sidebar by role

  • Admin: Dashboard, Circulation, People, Catalog, Programs, Settings (everything)
  • Librarian: Dashboard, Circulation, People, Catalog (less than admin)
  • Member: No back-office access

Access matrix overrides

Super-admins can hide specific items per role. Settings → Access → toggle features off for certain roles. Common toggles:

  • Hide Billing from Librarians (default)
  • Hide Analytics from Librarians (some libraries)
  • Hide Custom Genres from Librarians (some libraries)

Restoring defaults

Settings → Access → "Reset to defaults" returns to the standard role permissions.

Per-library

Each library has its own access matrix. A super-admin platform owner can have different access rules for different tenants.
