Add a payment method
Stripe Checkout walkthrough and supported cards.
Add a credit or debit card to your library to start (or continue) a subscription.
Where
Settings → Billing → Add payment method
What happens
Clicking "Add payment method" opens Stripe Checkout — a secure payment page hosted by Stripe. You enter:
- Card number, expiry, CVC
- Billing address
- Optional: promo code if you have one
After confirming, you're redirected back to Shelfwise and the page reloads showing your active subscription.
What we charge and when
- During a trial: card is added but not charged. You're charged at the end of the trial.
- After a trial: card is charged immediately for the first month.
- Mid-cycle plan change: prorated, charged immediately.
Supported cards
Stripe handles processing. Supported:
- Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, JCB
- Debit cards backed by the above networks
- Apple Pay, Google Pay (on supported browsers)
International cards are accepted. Currency is USD by default; talk to us if you need invoicing in another currency.
Updating later
To replace your card or change billing details, use the Customer Portal: Settings → Billing → Manage subscription. See "Update your card or billing details".
Security
Shelfwise never sees your card number — it goes directly from your browser to Stripe. We store only the last 4 digits and the card type (Visa, etc.) for display purposes. PCI compliance is handled entirely by Stripe.
