When the renew button is available and what blocks it.
Extend your loan by another full loan period (usually 21 days).
Where

- No one else is waiting on the book (waitlist blocks renewal)
What the button shows
- "Renew" when you can renew
- "Renewable in X days" when you're not yet in the renewal window
- "Renewals used" when you've hit the cap
- "Someone is waiting" when a waitlist blocks renewal
After renewing
- New due date is shown: previous due date + the loan period
- Email confirmation sent
- Hold queue (if any) starts ticking for the next patron's wait
Can't renew?
If the renewal is blocked by a waitlist, you can:
- Return the book on or before the due date
- Speak with a librarian (they may renew on your behalf in special cases)
- Place a hold yourself so you're next in line after the waitlist clears
Children's books and special policies
Some libraries set different policies per book — for example, kids' books may allow more renewals or longer periods. Check with your librarian if a policy seems off.
