Place a hold
From the catalog card or the book detail page.
Placing a hold reserves the next available copy of a book. Useful when the book is currently checked out, when there's a waitlist, or when you just want to be notified.
Where to place a hold
- On the catalogue card (the "Place hold" button under each book)
- On the book detail page (larger "Place hold" button)
What happens after
- Available now: "Hold ready for pickup" message; come to the library
- Waitlist: You're added to the queue; you'll get an email when it's your turn
- Already held by you: button shows "Hold placed" with hover-to-cancel
Email notifications
You'll be emailed:
- When your hold is ready (book set aside for pickup)
- 2 days before your hold expires if you haven't picked up
- When your turn comes if you were waitlisted
How long do holds last when ready?
Default: 7 days. After that the hold expires and the book moves to the next person in line.
Multiple holds
You can place holds on as many different books as you want. There's no limit unless your library has set one.
Holds on family members' behalf
Place a hold under your own account. If you want a book for your child, they need their own patron account (most libraries set this up automatically as part of family management).
Cancelling
See "Cancel your hold".
