Patron scoring (A-F)
How the grade is computed and what each grade means.
Every patron gets an A-F grade based on engagement and standing.
How it's calculated
- A: All on-time returns, active engagement (recent loans/holds)
- B: Mostly on-time, regular activity
- C: Occasional late returns, normal activity
- D: Frequent late returns, sporadic activity
- F: Multiple late/lost returns, account flagged
The score updates after every loan transaction.
What each grade affects
- A-D: No restrictions
- F: Auto-blocked from new holds and checkouts until cleared
Clearing an F
- Patron returns outstanding books
- A librarian reviews and clicks "Clear block" on their profile
- They can borrow again immediately
Where you see scores
Patrons → list view shows each patron's grade in a small pill (A, B, C, D, F).
Patron view
Patrons can see their own grade in Portal → My account if your library exposes it. Settings → Patrons → toggle "Show patron grade to patrons".
Adjusting thresholds
The score algorithm is global. Adjust thresholds in Settings → Patron Scoring:
- Late return tolerance (days)
- Lost book weighting
- Recency of activity (how recent is "active")
Manual override
You can manually set a patron's grade or block status from their profile. Useful for special cases.
