Edit a patron
What's reversible and what to do when an email changes.
Update a patron's details.
Where
Patrons → find them → Edit
What's editable
- Name (first, last)
- Phone
- Address
- Family membership
- Role (admin, librarian, member, super_admin)
- Card number (regenerate is possible)
- Active status
- Notes (internal, not patron-visible)
Changes that take effect immediately
All changes save instantly. Email change: their next sign-in uses the new email.
Email change considerations
If you change a patron's email:
- They can sign in with the new email immediately
- Any open invite from the OLD email is invalidated
- Future emails go to the new address
Role changes
- Member → Librarian: they can now see the back office. Have them restart their session.
- Member → Admin: full back-office access, including billing.
- Member → Super_admin: cross-library access (use sparingly).
Notes field
Internal-only. Useful for tracking things like "Owes $20 for lost book" or "Prefers contact by phone". Other patrons never see notes.
Audit trail
Every patron edit is logged. View Patrons → find them → Activity to see when and what changed.
