Set up your homepage hero banner
Banner image, blurb, overlay color, and the fallback when no image is set.
The hero banner is the first thing patrons see when they land on your catalogue. Use it to welcome them and set the tone.
What it includes
- Your library name (big, prominent)
- A short blurb (1-2 sentences, optional)
- A "Browse Catalog" button
- Your logo
- A background — either a photo you upload or a coloured panel
Setting up
Settings → Appearance → Hero Banner
- Banner image (optional): Upload a photo of your library, your reading space, or books on a shelf. JPEG or PNG, 1200×600 or larger recommended.
- Overlay colour: When you have a banner image, this is the tinted colour that overlays the photo for text readability. Without an image, this is the solid colour panel.
- Blurb: One short sentence under your library name (e.g., "Read. Imagine. Grow.")
Without a banner image
If you don't upload a photo, the hero becomes a clean coloured panel using your brand colour. This looks polished and is the default — no photo required.
Choosing a photo
A great hero photo:
- Has a clear focal point (a stack of books, a reader, a quiet corner)
- Doesn't have hard-to-read text in it
- Is high-quality (no compression artifacts)
- Reflects your library's atmosphere
Avoid:
- Stock photos that look generic
- Photos with recognizable faces (privacy)
- Photos with lots of small text
Free photo sources: Unsplash, Pexels (both have church and library photos under permissive licences).
