Renew a loan
Eligibility window, max-renewals cap, and how waitlists block renewal.
Renew a patron's loan from the staff side. Patrons can also renew themselves from their portal.
Where (staff side)
Loans → find the loan → click "Renew"
Renewal rules
- Within the renewal window (3 days before due, default)
- Hasn't hit the maximum renewals (2 by default)
- No waitlist blocking renewal
Override
Even when the rules block a renewal, an admin can override:
- Open the loan
- Click "Force renew"
- Confirm
This bumps the due date and counts as a renewal. Useful for special cases (patron is travelling, etc.).
Renewal without re-checkout
The patron doesn't need to bring the book back. Renewing extends the existing loan in place.
What changes
- Due date moves forward by the loan period (21 days default)
- Renewed count increments
- Patron gets a confirmation email
Renewals on lost-but-found books
If a book was marked lost and returns later, you can:
- Recover the copy (Catalog → mark active again)
- The patron's old loan is closed automatically
- They can borrow again as a fresh loan
Limits per plan
Renewal limits are global per library, not per plan. Adjust in Settings → Loan Policies.
