Receipt printing
Layout and when receipts print.
Print receipts when patrons check out or return books.
Where to configure
Settings → Receipts
Receipt types
- Checkout receipt — Title, barcode, due date, hold count, library name
- Return receipt — Title, barcode, return date (rarely used)
- Self-checkout receipt — Same as checkout but printed at the kiosk
Receipt formats
Two layouts:
- Letter-size — Full-page PDF preview, opens in a print dialog
- Receipt-printer (2.25" or 3.125" wide) — Auto-formatted for a thermal receipt printer
Hardware
For receipt printers we recommend:
- Star TSP100 series (USB or Ethernet)
- Epson TM-T20 series
Both work with our standard formatting.
Setting up a receipt printer
Connect via browser (Chrome supports thermal printers via the Print API). Print a test page from Settings → Receipts → Test Print.
Hiding the receipt
If you don't want to print receipts at all, toggle off in Settings → Receipts. No prompt appears at checkout.
Custom receipt fields
Premium plans can add custom fields (e.g., library hours, return address, donation appeal). Email hello@tryshelfwise.com.
Email-as-receipt
Instead of printing, you can rely on the checkout confirmation email as the patron's receipt. Many libraries do this to save paper. Enable in Settings → Receipts → "Email instead of printing".
Still stuck? Email hello@tryshelfwise.comand we'll get back within one business day.
