Browser and device requirements

Supported browsers, mobile support, and tablet kiosk requirements.

Shelfwise is a web app — no install required. It runs in any modern browser on any device.

Supported browsers

  • Chrome / Edge (latest 2 versions)
  • Safari (latest 2 versions, including iPhone and iPad)
  • Firefox (latest 2 versions)

Internet Explorer isn't supported. Older Android browsers may have minor display issues but core functionality works.

Mobile

Every Shelfwise screen — patron-facing and admin — is designed mobile-first. Patrons browse the catalogue, place holds, and renew loans from any phone. Librarians can run circulation from a tablet or even a phone in a pinch.

Self-checkout kiosk

Recommended hardware:

  • Any iPad (8th generation or newer) or Android tablet
  • Optional: a USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner — any standard "keyboard wedge" scanner works, no drivers needed
  • A wall mount or kiosk stand

The kiosk runs in your browser at https://YOUR-SLUG.tryshelfwise.com/self-checkout. Add it to your home screen for full-screen mode.

Internet connection

Shelfwise needs a working internet connection — there's no offline mode currently. A slow connection works fine; checkout uses less than 50KB per action.
