Print barcodes
Layout, paper types, what to do when a barcode label peels off.
Print barcode labels for new books — either as you add them or in bulk.
Where
Tools → Print Barcodes
Three layouts
- Avery 5160 (3×10 grid, 30 labels per sheet) — standard address-label sheets
- Avery 5167 (4×20 grid, 80 labels per sheet) — small labels for thin spines
- Continuous roll (1 label per row) — for label printers like the DYMO LabelWriter
Picking which barcodes to print
- "All books" — every active copy in your library
- "Selected books" — pick from a list
- "Books without a printed barcode" — only ones flagged as not-yet-printed
- "By date range" — books added between two dates
Printer settings
- Paper size: Letter (8.5×11)
- Margins: None
- Scale: 100% (do not "fit to page")
- Print to a laser printer for durability; inkjet smears with time
If labels print misaligned, check that "Scale" is set to 100% and that margins are 0.
Label material
For long-lasting labels:
- Avery 5160 or compatible
- Self-adhesive permanent
- Laser-printable
Polyester labels (more expensive) survive scrubbing and wet cleaning if your library uses such cleaning.
When a label peels off
- Reprint the barcode for that specific copy
- Reapply over the old (or remove and reapply fresh)
- Mark the copy as "Reprinted barcode" in the notes if you want to track
Custom barcode numbers
By default we generate 13-digit unique numbers. If you have an existing barcode scheme:
- Add Copy → Barcode → enter your own number
- We'll preserve it and print exactly that number on the label
